About the Project

Making an Impact in SW Washington

In addition to leading the design and building of the new Chelsea Anderson Memorial Play Station (CHAMPS) at Marshall Park, Harper’s Playground serves as the design consultant on the historic Esther Short Park.

The oldest public square in the state of Washington, the location is one of many that will be transformed through the City of Vancouver’s Project Play—an initiative to install inclusive playgrounds throughout the city.

Both radically inclusive new playscapes are under construction, will provide community members of all ages and abilities access to physically, socially, and emotionally inviting play, and will be the first of their kind in Washington.

The reimagined Esther Short Park is set to reopen in spring of 2023.

Prepare to playfully scramble, spin, and see-saw on these inclusive playground elements:
  • Double Slide & Play Mound
  • Boulder Scramble
  • Climbing Dome
  • Zero Entry Merry Go All
  • Swings
  • Roxall See-Saw
  • Music Garden
  • Plus additional trees / landscaping & increased seating
